Here we are, December 21st already. The first day of Winter, and the shortest day of the year. To mark the occasion today, the children and I made pinecone bird feeders to give a helping hand to our little friends outside.
(Of course, within a few hours squirrels had deftly removed two of the three pinecones...but that's okay, there are few birds in our neighbourhood so I expected that to happen.)
We read a book about the Winter Solstice.
We went on a family nature walk...
And home again for some hot cocoa...
And an impromptu nap.
(If you think his chin looks grey, you're right--he keeps trying to draw a mustache and beard on himself with marker, so he will look just like Daddy. So his face is perpetually stained.)
I'll be taking a break from this blog for about a week--I still have some last-minute crafting and baking to do over the next few days, and then once Christmas arrives I plan to just take it easy for as long as I can, and enjoy the good food, good times, our warm home, and most of all my family. I wish all of my readers a happy first day of Winter, and a very special and joyous Christmas this year.
